Posting Guidelines

In order to maintain a high degree of support demeanor in this group:

Posts should remain On-Topic.

Posts should be of a technical nature, either stating a problem, suggestion, passing on a helpful hint or answer to the problem.

The "Original Poster" has control of the thread. You are encouraged to reply with what you believe to be the correct answer.

[OFFTOPIC] posts should be marked accordingly for the express purpose of flagging the post as well as providing a means for others to set a filter.

Please settle personal matters via email.

Please type your reply below the quoted text in the groups as this helps maintain continuity and preserve chronological order.

Please do not snip/trim previous posts/replies *except* for those that are off-topic. Readers that "mark as read" can come back to the topic and continue without having to re-load the original post or replies. This is considered a courtesy and very much appreciated by all. To "snip" simply means to delete or trim text that you think isn't necessary or relevant to the discussion.

Please post your question to one group only.

Post to the group only, do not email in addition to posting unless specifically requested by the poster to do so.

Please do not post vulgarity in the groups. Letter or symbol substitution in place of the actual letters that form the "dirty word(s)" is not acceptable. We realize that this is a very touchy subject, therefore, your utmost cooperation is most appreciated, thanks. Please note the posting RULES below for further clarification.

A few notes before you post a question:

  • Spend some time reading posted messages. If you read the last 100 or so threads you will probably find clues to your problem.
  • Please include enough information so someone can answer your question, including what operating system you are using (Windows, Mac, Linux, UNIX), what version of Netscape/Mozilla and a general description of what is happening and when it happens.
  • Choose the appropriate group for your post.
  • Use a descriptive subject in the Subject Line.
  • One question per post is usually better than several questions in "ONE" post!
  • Just press the button once to post. Our experience tells us that your message will be posted successfully with just one push. We get a bit peevish with "nervous nellies" who end up posting the same message many times because they are not sure their posting went through.
  • Watch also for the "quote suck" bug. If you do not leave a blank line after the quoted material, the beginning of your response may (depending on which of the dozens of Navigator versions you have) get "sucked" into the quoted material.

And now for the RULES as taken directly from the Netscape Terms of Service:

NOTE: These RULES override (usurp) the above posted guidelines where applicable.

Netscape Newsgroups Terms of Use Netscape Communications Corporation has established the Netscape Champions as facilitators and designated representatives to assist in the smooth operations of the news groups.

Personal attacks on individuals or groups of individuals will not be tolerated.

Posting of spam, advertising, profanity or pornography is prohibited. Netscape Communications Corporation or its designated representatives reserve the following rights:

    1. To define spam in the context of the servers operated by Netscape Communications Corporation.
    2. To define unauthorized advertising and solicitation.
    3. To define profanity or pornography.

Netscape Communications Corporation and its designated representatives reserve the right to take any reasonable action to keep the groups free of objectionable material as in 1), 2) and 3) above. Such action may include removal of messages by Netscape personnel or by representatives explicitly designated by Netscape.

In addition, Netscape Communications Corporation and/or its designated representatives may consider some apparently argumentative material outside of reasonable use of the groups. The determination of "argumentative" remains a right of Netscape and any action detailed or reserved for 1), 2) and 3) above may be considered or implemented at the prerogative of Netscape Communications Corporation or its designated representatives.

Use of the Netscape News Servers by individuals indicates acceptance and understanding of these terms.

    Good Luck and Happy Surfing!

  • Thank You ...
